Abstract
Some results of a study on an innovative design approach for long-span suspension bridges are reported. The deck configurations are characterized by frequency ratios of the first torsional to vertical bending modes susceptible to couple with values lower than unity. The aim of the study is to investigate both on the possibility to obtain a total inhibition of the classical flutter instability mechanism in the range of wind speed of practical interest and on the potentiality of such a design approach in achieving significant cost savings due to the simpler deck construction allowed.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
