hIAPP amyloid deposition is a recognised hallmark of type two diabetes. Here we describe an unexpected hormetic effect of a short exposure to a low concentration of toxic hIAPP oligomers, with the upregulation of antioxidant enzymes via a RAGE-NADPH oxidase axis.
