After a literature analysis starting from community psychology's foundation, till the latest findings by Hornsey et al. (2006) and Zani, Cicognani, & Albanesi (2011), this contribution was aimed to explore features of university political movements and to investigate opinions and attitudes about civic and political participation in young university Italian students. Two different studies have been set: a qualitative and a quantitative one. The first study investigates the construct of participation, using the focus group technique, through qualitative analysis founded on Grounded Theory. The quantitative study has been developed through an ad hoc questionnaire, administered to 76 students who support the student union joining their cultural and recreational events, investigating their relationship with institutions, their faith in them and their viewpoint of civic and political participation. Findings show new emerging opinions about political and civic activism in this context, and a new way of approaching to institutions in this age group that appears to leave out traditional parties. They also confirm a clear division in politically active and passive students and some features of the community participation model developed by Campbell & Jovchelovitch (2000), and a strong group identification (Klandermans,2002).
