The high earthquake vulnerability of the buildings of historic city centers is mostly given by the poor quality of walls and the different phases of their edification. Abstract
The high earthquake vulnerability of the buildings of historic city centers is mostly given by the poor quality of walls and the different phases of their edification. Often their seismic resistance is given by their compactness. Over time numerous earthquakes have affected the Italian territory and have forced to develop specific strengthening techniques of existing buildings and a parallel development of the theoretical aspects of their seismic behavior has been made. The evolution seismic codes in Italy is examined. The peculiarity of urban structure of Castelvecchio Calvisio, a castrum and many decumani within a walled ovoid, with blocks in many parts connected by arches and covered walkways, and the structural features of the buildings are studied. The homogeneity of the building techniques, of their highness, with local well-defined variations, leads to consider Castelvecchio Calvisio as a case study to better explain the seismic vulnerability of historic centres.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
