Monitoring of respiratory movements is an important diagnostic method in planning medical care. For instance, overnight respiratory monitoring plays a key role in the diagnosis of sleep disturbances. Although the effectiveness of the available devices has been fully validated for sleep studies, their use outside the sleep clinic for recording respiratory movements and heart rate during daily activities is limited, mainly due to their lack of portability.
