The paper deals with questions of the statics of masonry bodies modeled as bodies made of no-tension materials. Specifically, the paper formulates the kinematic and static problems of limit analysis. The kinematic problem involves the infimum of kinematically admissible multipliers, and the static problem the supremum of statically admissible multipliers. The central question of the paper is under which conditions these two number coincide. A whole ordered scale of function spaces for stresses and strain is presented.
