Passenger experience is on the agenda of contemporary Airport Design. Good spatial design is needed by airport owners to manage efficiently the boarding and disembarking processes and alsois a very important issue to contribute to social sustainability. This is shown by an higher satisfaction level in the passenger experience. We discuss the application of Information Modeling (IM) as a collaborative tool adopted in the project proposal for the improvement of passenger experience of Pisa’s Galileo Galilei airport’s terminal. The target was to redevelop the obsolete passenger terminal, combining operational and functional upgrade with a new unitary architectural image. Additional goal was ensuring compliance to domestic and international technical references for Sustainable Airport Passenger Terminals. The methodology refers to collaborative procedures for design development and space planning, seen as basic project design information set.The new space design rationalizes passenger flows with major modifications to the internal layout. A new sustainable architectural envelope gives to the terminal a unitary design. The terminal becomes a “flight factory” with attention to the passenger experience. Considering the important multidisciplinary features involved in Airport Terminal Spatial Design, the joint use of Collaborative Design Tools with Lean Design methodologies can have important outcomes in the search for project design integration, effective solutions, quality and all-around sustainability.

Abstract
Considering the important multidisciplinary features involved in Airport Terminal Spatial Design, the joint use of Collaborative Design Tools with Lean Design methodologies can have important outcomes in the search for project design integration, effective solutions, quality and all-around sustainability.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
