Giovanni Mauro d’Arcano, known primarily for his burlesque works, was also the author of Latin verses: the miscellany of Latin poetry contained in the manuscript NA 1162 of the Biblioteca Nazi onale Centrale of Florence transmits eight compositions in distichs under the name Maurus, likely attributable to the poet, who referred to his composition of elegies in one of his letters. This article offers a critical transcription of the verses, after briefly defining their occasions and recipients, traces their principal models and clarifies their relationship with the burlesque verses.
