Attention towards social reporting is very high with reference to universities. The paper aims to assess the ma-turity level of social reporting in Italian universities and to measure their quality by evaluating the correspond-ence to GBS standard settings. The research was carried out using the inductive method. We evaluated the quality of social reporting by analysing reports according to GBS standard guidelines. The results confirm previ-ous researches by highlighting the necessity to improve social reporting: within 96 universities, only 15 report about social issues without continuity. The paper provides one of the first in-depth studies about Italian universi-ties’ social reporting carried out by comparing them and their disclosure. Results have to be considered as a re-sponse to the need for more social research in the context of higher education.
