The article focuses on contemporary Ukrainian literature in the Rus- sian language. This literary phenomenon resides in the interstitial passage between Ukrainian fixed binary cultural identifications. In order to define the literary milieu accommodating the phenomenon of Russian Ukrainian literature, it is important to analyze the Ukrainian cultural process as a whole, understanding the complex interplay between literature, cultural markets, and identity. The author’s research carried out in 2013 and his interviews with prominent cultural figures conducted in Kyiv, Donetsk, and Kharkiv allowed him to elaborate a comprehensive explanatory model of this cultural phenomenon.

Abstract
