The presentation describes the reuse of the Parini Hospital, a 20th century Modernist building that needed to be restored and expanded to become a state of the art healthcare centre. The regeneration of old hospital buildings can no longer be confined to the hospital precinct but must involve larger scale urban connections. The study aimed to understand: the critical points of the urban network, possible synergies between the urban and the service system, and how to create integration between public, social and hospital functions. The study highlighted a strategy based on the reuse of the existing building for polyclinics and day services while high-technologies will be hosted in the new addition.
