According to some authors (Hess, Marx, Benjamin, Pasolini, Hillman, and others) capitalism is not only a mode of production more or less suitable to Christian ethics, but also something like a new religion itself. In their footsteps, and re-interpreting Agamben’s concept of Economic Theology, this paper aims at shedding light on the hidden theology of capitalism as it comes out of its practices and the mainstream theory: profit-making and consumerism as parody of the Transcendency; market as the crucial dogma of today’s Salvation. The final section looks into what the A. calls the new Holy Trinity of today’s theology, with its three figures (Rational Choice Theory, Homo oeconomicus, the Efficient Market Hypothesis) closely corresponding to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Abstract
According to some authors (Hess, Marx, Benjamin, Pasolini, Hillman, and others) capitalism is not only a mode of production more or less suitable to Christian ethics, but also something like a new religion itself. In their footsteps, and re-interpreting Agamben’s concept of Economic Theology, this paper aims at shedding light on the hidden theology of capitalism as it comes out of its practices and the mainstream theory: profit-making and consumerism as parody of the Transcendency; market as the crucial dogma of today’s Salvation. The final section looks into what the A. calls the new Holy Trinity of today’s theology, with its three figures (Rational Choice Theory, Homo oeconomicus, the Efficient Market Hypothesis) closely corresponding to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
