Aim of the paper is to shed light on some problems arising from the use of indicators for evaluating and comparing the performance of national judicial systems in a cross-country perspective, taking cue from assessing the impact of indicators on the reforms of the Italian civil justice system in the last ten years. I have written this paper as a sort of by-product in the framework of a wider research project I am carrying out as a Senior Global Research Fellow at NYU School of Law in the academic year 2014-2015.
