This paper deals about the Edo period in the Japan History of mathematics. The Edo period is distinguished by the fact that more than two centuries Japan enjoyed freedom from warfare at home and abroad under the policy of “National Seclusion”. In the Edo period Japan experienced significant cultural prosperity including mathematical activities. From the middle of seventeenth century Japanese mathematics (often called “wasan” in Japan) developed in its own way and at the end of the Edo period even in a small village there were farmers interested in mathematics.
