The authors have conducted a multiple case analysis on four firms active in different sectors (leather, agrifood, gold leaf and furniture) and have studied the factors of their success or failure. The main results of this study show how a different mix of variables (diversification of the production, internationalization, innovation and branding) can affect positively or negatively small and medium businesses.
