The changing needs of the population and the financial crisis in many developed countries of the world have already imposed and will impose in the years ahead a new vision of the acute care hospital. The hospital is required to be more efficient and effective and thus the numerical indicators , while important to define a macroscopic framework of the evolution of the hospital in the current context and in the future, are not sufficient to describe the quality of the facilities and equipment in relation to the services and the results, the patient's experience, and the protection of the right to health considering different aspects and under different economic, social and cultural conditions. The book suggests analysis and/or design processes that allow, or rather facilitate, interdisciplinary observations, evaluations and decisions among various areas of expertise (politicians, administrators, managers, physicians, architects, economists, engineers, etc.), and collaboratives ones between the figures involved (doctors, nurses, administrators, patients, carers etc.).
