Regulation n. 1215 del 2012, replacing and recasting regulation n. 44 del 2001, opens a new chapter in the history of European integration. This article focuses on protectives competences and specifically on jurisdiction over consumer contracts. From the Brussels Convention of 27 September 1968 until today, this matter has witnessed substantial amendments and significant interpretative decisions by the Court of Justice. This study traces such development and analyses the most recent European cases concerning the « activity towards » the State of the consumer, which aims at increasing the scope of application of the protective consumer’s forum.
