This study overcame difficulties due to the complexity and heterogeneity of the fish commercial sector, characterized by a high number of taxonomic units and commercial categories, by different methods of preservation and transformation. The estimated RACC of fish meat in Italy in the 2010-2014 period resulted on average 6.50 kg, corresponding to about 70% of the apparent consumption of fish, 9.28 kg/per capita/year, which deviate significantly from the apparent consumption data reported in official statistics, including not only fish but also crustaceans and molluscs.

Abstract

This study overcame difficulties due to the complexity and heterogeneity of the fish commercial sector, characterized by a high number of taxonomic units and commercial categories, by different methods of preservation and transformation. The estimated RACC of fish meat in Italy in the 2010-2014 period resulted on average 6.50 kg, corresponding to about 70% of the apparent consumption of fish, 9.28 kg/per capita/year, which deviate significantly from the apparent consumption data reported in official statistics, including not only fish but also crustaceans and molluscs.
