This paper describes how to prune rationally Castanea sativa orchards in relation to different stands characteristics. Green pruning is proposed as an innovative practice also in relation to the advantages in phytosanitary terms in presence of the new pest, the Chinese gall wasp. Green pruning techniques on both young and mature chestnuts are described as well as the experiences coming from field projects funded by Regione Toscana
