The text addresses the relationship between Project, Sustainability and Complexity with reference to the entire design flow - from concept to the final product - with the aim of understanding how the methods and tools favor its fertilization. Both the traditional methods and tools applied by Design for Sustainability and the approaches considered promising such as the concepts of Cradle to Cradle, Biomimicry, Product Service System and Design Thinking are analyzed. Specifically, the research identifies a series of methods and tools to be applied in the field of sustainability in its broadest sense and defines a hypothetical project flow where these are integrated and at the same time generate possible areas of relationship, which, in the theory of complexity, are more specifically defined as edge of chaos or border areas. These interactions in the theory of complexity represent the points where the different theories and disciplines do not reject each other but attract each other, changing from order to disorder which, through interrelations, consequently leads to organization. Some of the methods and tools analyzed were applied in two research projects funded by the Tuscany Region - Single R & D Bando 2012 - presented in the last chapter.
