Il papiro di Derveni tra religione e filosofia

Il libro si struttura in 3 parti. La prima parte propone un’analisi del contesto funerario di ritrovamento del papiro, sviluppata alla luce dei costumi funerari e degli altri ritrovamenti tombali analoghi nella Macedonia greca di tra IV e III secolo. La seconda parte è interamente incentrata sulle prime colonne del testo (fino alla VI inclusa): dopo un capitolo (2) contenente una breve introduzione metodologica sulla ricostruzione delle prime colonne (sviluppata in un altro volume in preparazione) e l’edizione delle colonne III-VI, seguono capitoli dedicati ai frammenti delle colonne precedenti la col. III (cap. 3), alla demonologia e alla giustizia retributiva e cosmica (cap. 4 su coll. III e IV), alla concezione della mantica, all’esegesi sacrificale per i defunti (cap. 5 coll. V-VI) e alla concezione dell’anima dell’autore di Derveni, sviluppata attraverso una lettura organica delle prime colonne del papiro e dell’esegesi orfica seguente (cap. 6). La terza parte è invece dedicata alla figura dell’autore e ne analizza le tecniche esegetiche, alla luce dei suoi predecessori nell’esegesi omerica e del probabile contesto culturale in cui operava, ossia l’Atene di fine V secolo (cap. 7); un ultimo capitolo è dedicato alle differenze con la successiva esegesi stoica in relazione all’interpretazione dei nomi divini (cap. 8). The book is structured into 3 main parts. The first part (ch. 1) analyses the archaeological context of the find of the Derveni papyrus, in light of the funerary customs of the Macedonian élite and of other analogous finds of Macedonian funeral archaeology dating between the IV and the III century BC. The second part is entirely devoted to the first columns of the papyrus. The first chapter of the second part concerns the methodology of the reconstruction of the roll and contains a new edition of columns III-VI (ch. 2). Ch. 3 proposes an analysis of the themes emerging from the fragments constituting the columns preceding col. III, while ch. 4 concerns the themes emerging from cols. III and IV, which means demonology, retributive and cosmic justice. Ch. 5 concerns mantics (col. V) and the exegesis of sacrifices for the souls developed by the author in col. VI. Ch. 6, the last one of the second part, proposes a conclusive analysis of the conception of the soul that can be ascribed to the author on the basis of his religious and physical concepts. The third part is devoted to the intellectual characterization of the author. His exegetical practice is analyzed in light of the previous interpreters of the Homeric poems and aims to define a possible intellectual background in which the Author was operating (Athens of the end of the V century BC); finally his exegetical arguments are compared with some Stoic allegorical patterns with the purpose of showing the differences existing between the two form of allegorical interpretation of divine names and of the physics connected to them.
