L'Ucraina contemporanea nei gialli di Iren Rozdobud'ko

The author focuses her analysis on topics related to contemporary Ukrainian society in four novels of a detective genre, written by Iren Rozdobud'ko, one of the first Ukrainian writers who is engaged in this genre in independent Ukraine. Ukrainian society is, on the one hand, confused in front of models of life, which are alien to the socio-cultural and spatial coordinates of the Soviet era, and on the other, morally and materially corrupt at all its levels, with only a few exceptions. Women, heroines or co-heroines in Rozdobudko’s detectives, on the one hand, were able to achieve success and recognition in public spheres, previously owned only by men, and thus were able to achieve good economic status, on the other hand, often they bear the brunt of everyday life and are subject to exploitation. Rozdobudko’s clear interest in psychological introspection and social topics makes her detectives a very original product in contemporary Ukrainian popular culture.
