This research focuses on the instrument of the model linked to the development of a cre- ative approach to the detail design. Starting with a didactic experience carried out for some years at the School of Archi- tecture of Florence we address the relationship between two main types of modelling: “physical”, we could say traditional, modelling carried out manually which we have de- fined as “poor” insofar as it can be achieved with low cost materials, and one which we have defined as “rich”, namely modelling that involves computerized tools and uses so- phisticated programmes.
