Abstract

Originally composed of two courtyards, the buildings of the Central Complex of University of Pavia are divided into a fifth-teen century part, deriving from the ancient San Matteo hospital, and an eighteenth-century part, integrated with the previous one without a solution of continuity. This is the largest building in the historic center of the ancient Lombard capital, and the many commemorative inscriptions and reliefs in the porticoes trace the history of the oldest Lombard university. The various interventions for maintenance, necessary considering the extension of the complex, have motivated the start of a research project that aims to define operational strategies for the development of information systems, functional to the creation of reliable databases on the historical and architectural heritage of the University of Pavia, intended as indispensable premises for each subsequent conservation action to be planned. The research laboratories involved in the project, DAda LAB and PLAY, of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of University of Pavia, have defined a documentary strategy for the development of integrated analysis and digitization systems, through which to develop informative models useful for the planning of interventions on heritage.
