Carlo Gesualdo, Madrigali a cinque voci. Libro secondo (Ferrara 1594)

This is the critical edition of the Second Book of Madrigals by Carlo Gesualdo Principe di Venosa. Unlike the two previous editions of the book (Rome 1956 edited by F. Vatielli; Hamburg 1962 edited by W. Weismann), both based on the score prepared by Simone Molinaro (Genoa, Pavoni, 1613), the present edition takes as its basic witness the "editio princeps" (Ferrara, Baldini, 1594), while collating all the other available witnesses: this has led in more than one case to the discovery of new lessons of authorship. The work also includes a critical edition of the poetic texts (also edited by Marco Mangani) and a chapter of bibliographical description written by Francesco Saggio.
