Religione o religioni?

The article reviews a recent book authored by Jörg Rüpke (Italian translation : Pantheon. Una nuova storia della religione, Torino, Einaudi, 2018). Pantheon is certainly a new history of Roman religion, but also a new history of religion – both as a concept and practice – in antiquity. The Roman religion, therefore, is neither irreducible nor unique. The question is whether this approach can also have effect outside the ancient world. My reading here suggests that this is possible (and desiderable) if only the idea that religion is above all relational was strengthened.
