The stratigraphic excavation carried out about twenty years ago in the Guarnacci Museum in Volterra is presented here for the first time. The survey revealed interesting aspects, both in terms of material production and in terms of the urban planning of the Etruscan city in the Hellenistic period, highlighting wall structures that are interesting comparisons in the ancient city. The site was discovered by chance, following the work carried out inside the building Desideri- Tangassi for the installation of an elevator. The area is very limited in size and located within a modern building: this has made excavation difficult and is also a limit for possible interpretations. In fact, all the structures identified continue beyond the limits of the area; moreover, many structures have not been investigated at the foundations and therefore have an uncertain chronology. Despite these problems, the investigation has found a powerful stratigraphic sequence and a large quantity of archaeological material, of which the most salient phases and the most significant finds are presented here.
