Using a multimodal semiotic perspective, I investigate the production and use of signs in expert (doctoral) students involved in processes of constructing argumentations and proof by mathematical induction. Focusing on their speech, written inscriptions, and gestures, different categories of signs, related to mathematical induction, are identified and analysed. In this paper I show some paradigmatic examples of these signs. Keywords: Mathematical induction, proving processes, semiotic bundle, gestures.

Abstract
Using a multimodal semiotic perspective, I investigate the production and use of signs in expert (doctoral) students involved in processes of constructing argumentations and proof by mathematical induction. Focusing on their speech, written inscriptions, and gestures, different categories of signs, related to mathematical induction, are identified and analysed. In this paper I show some paradigmatic examples of these signs. Keywords: Mathematical induction, proving processes, semiotic bundle, gestures.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
