The safeguarding and enhancement of the HIstoric and Traditional businesses of the Historical Centre of Florence

Il tema emergente del rapporto tra la città storica e le attività economiche che costituiscono un’importante testimonianza della evoluzione storica urbana e del tessuto culturale, viene approfondito attraverso un programma di ricerca che ha analizzato il tradizionale tessuto economico e sociale del centro di Firenze anche sotto il profilo del rapporto con la città e attraverso l’impatto con la zonizzazione urbana e i relativi fronti urbani. Lo studio ha posto in luce la necessità di integrare le fasi di documentazione e rilievo delle realtà fisiche dei luoghi del commercio con la registrazione degli aspetti legati al patrimonio immateriale; questi ultimi in particolare definiscono l’autenticità di un luogo e le caratteristiche che, in caso di scomparsa, rischiano di modificare in maniera irreversibile l’ambiente stesso. L’introduzione di questa categoria patrimoniale, con la convenzione UNESCO del 2003 ha richiesto lo sviluppo di strumenti e protocolli di indagine che hanno coinvolto anche, nello specifico, il settore scientifico del disegno e del rilievo architettonico e urbano per la valutazione degli aspetti immateriali e il loro impatto sull’evoluzione dell’immagine della città nel tempo. The relationship between the historic city and the businesses that constitute an essential testimony of the historical and cultural urban evolution is an emerging theme on the international scene. The research program has analyzed the traditional economic and social context of the centre of Florence in relation to the city, urban zoning and building facades. The study highlighted the need to integrate the documentation and survey phases of the physical realities of the places of commerce with recording the aspects linked to the intangible cultural heritage. These aspects define the authenticity of a place and the characteristics which, in the event of its disappearance, risk irreversibly changing the environment itself. The introduction of this patrimonial category, with the UNESCO convention of 2003, required the development of investigation tools and protocols that also involved, specifically, the scientific sector of architectural and urban design and survey for the evaluation of their impact on the evolution of the image of the city over time.
