During the last decade, the role of brain plasticity and neuroinflammation in protecting or causing damage in MS patients, has been intensively studied. Specifically, the role of factors such as BDNF polymorphism in neuroinflammatory disorders, like MS, and in brain volume has been poorly investigated so far, with conflicting results. With this background, we have conducted two different studies (that we will call Study 1 and Study 2) to analyze the influence of this polymorphism (Val66Met) both on clinical disability (motor and cognitive) and on hippocampal subfields in MS patients.

Abstract

During the last decade, the role of brain plasticity and neuroinflammation in protecting or causing damage in MS patients, has been intensively studied. Specifically, the role of factors such as BDNF polymorphism in neuroinflammatory disorders, like MS, and in brain volume has been poorly investigated so far, with conflicting results. With this background, we have conducted two different studies (that we will call Study 1 and Study 2) to analyze the influence of this polymorphism (Val66Met) both on clinical disability (motor and cognitive) and on hippocampal subfields in MS patients.
