L'occhio del mondo. Il matrimonio nelle novelle di Pirandello

Il matrimonio per Pirandello è la ferita sanguinante della sua vita e il filo rosso che lega i testi della sua ricca produzione. Nel profluvio di immagini e motivi che transitano da un genere all’altro, quasi tutte le storie pirandelliane hanno radici in naufragi coniugali. Pirandello sa che, nell’infernale campo di sguardi che è il mondo, la società ha insegnato a mostrare solamente il lato luminoso e così il matrimonio finisce per essere un doppio specchio: quello privato, dinanzi al quale ciascun personaggio scopre l’abisso della propria anima, e quello di un’epoca o di un mondo entro cui si insinua la riflessione umoristica che rivela la faccia celata nell’ombra. Attraverso un'indagine condotta sulle varie raccolte di novelle del grande scrittore siciliano, il libro ricostruisce il conflitto tra la vita e le maschere che la soffocano.
