By taking inspiration from the recent advancements in the field of molecular recognition of carbohydrates, this thesis aims at exploring new molecules capable of modulating carbohydrates recognition processes and the resulting biological effects. To cope this task, two different and complementary approaches will be discussed, the development of biomimetic synthetic receptors for carbohydrates and the design, synthesis and evaluation of analogues and mimetics of natural saccharidic epitopes.

Abstract
