The principal aim of this PhD thesis is the synthesis of novel N-glycomimetics obtained from simple carbohydrates and from the biomass and, in particular, from levoglucosenone or glucose. The N-glycomimetics which have been synthesized in the course of this work are azasugars, N-glycosides and aminosugars. Biological targets have been identified in two different enzymatic classes: carbonic anhydrases and glycosidases.

Abstract
