Linguistic Tuscany is usually seen in its close relationship with literary Italian. This perspective obscures the fact that Tuscan dialects are characterized by specific phonological, morphosyntactic and lexical phenomena, in many cases recorded in ancient attestations, whose distribution reflects the historical and sociocultural events that the region has experienced. The differences and correspondences between Florentine, western and southern varieties, Siena, Arezzo and dialects of the north-western area of ​​the region are the subject of a careful analysis in the volume, also aimed at showing the relationships with the central and adjacent northern ones.La Toscana linguistica è usualmente vista nel suo stretto rapporto con l’italiano letterario. Questa prospettiva oscura il fatto che le parlate toscane sono caratterizzate da specifici fenomeni fonologici, morfosintattici e lessicali, in molti casi registrati nelle attestazioni antiche, la cui distribuzione riflette gli eventi storici e socioculturali che la regione ha vissuto. Le diff erenze e le corrispondenze tra fi orentino, varietà occidentali e meridionali, senese, aretino e dialetti dell’area nord-occidentale della regione sono oggetto nel volume di un’attenta analisi, volta anche a mostrare i rapporti con i sistemi dialettali centrali e settentrionali adiacenti.
