In comparison to other domains within Hegel’s encyclopedic system, the Philosophy of Subjective Spirit has received relatively lesser attention from scholars. Excluding works on Anthropology and Psychology undertaken by direct disciples of Hegel, the reevaluation of this part of the system only commenced in the 1970s and 1980s. However, it is only in more recent times, through the contributions of Stederoth, Inwood, Rometsch, Wolff, Ferrarin, Nuzzo, Magrì, and Winfield among others, that Hegelian Anthropology, Phenomenology, and Psychology have become subjects of in-depth commentary and accurate critical exa- mination. Maurer’s book aligns with this movement of rediscovery and constitutes a comprehensive and systematic study on the themes of Gefühl and the Gefühlssphäre in the Philosophy of Subjective Spirit.
