The aim of this PhD thesis was to carry out epidemiological surveillances on the emerging mechanisms of resistance to old an novel last resort antimicrobials and characterize MDR Gram-negative pathogens and Gram-positive bacteria using phenotyping and genotyping approaches. In particular, was evaluated the activity of key drugs such carbapenems, fosfomycin, colistin, cefiderocol and beta-lactam/betal-lactamases combinations for the treatment of difficult-to-treat infections.
