In the essay the relationship between Alighiero Boetti and Salvo (Salvatore Mangione) is analyzed with special focus on the early years of activity of the latter. In this respect, great attention is paid to the investigation of the themes of Salvo's art vis-à-vis Boetti's interest in play as a metaphor of the artistic practice. A few key works by Salvo, such as the "Autoritratti" and the hand-written books, are extensively explored.
