Formazione del lessico italiano della psicanalisi

Il lavoro nasce dalla constatazione della sostanziale assenza nel panorama degli studi storico-linguistici italiani di un’indagine sistematica sulla genesi del lessico italiano della psicoanalisi. Il tentativo è stato quello di colmare alcune lacune lessicografiche in cui facilmente potrebbe incorrere chi, per farsi un’idea della storia della formazione della terminologia psicanalitica italiana, volesse ricorrere ai repertori lessicografici. Questi (sia quelli sincronici che quelli diacronici) producono risultati viziati dall’uso di fonti non specifiche, con la conseguenza che una terminologia che si è formata nel complesso entro i primi quattro decenni del Novecento sembrerebbe, invece, essersi costituita lungo l’arco di quasi un secolo. Il periodo di riferimento è il quarantennio compreso tra il 1899 e il 1939. All’interno di questo arco cronologico è stato costruito un corpus (C-PsicIT) di oltre 600 testi che raccoglie non solo quanto è stato prodotto dalla psicanalisi italiana, ma anche quanto è stato scritto sulla psicanalisi, includendo articoli di giornale, riviste e (a dire il vero non molte) opere letterarie. Gli spogli compiuti ci hanno permesso di individuare quei termini che, limitatamente al periodo preso in esame, sono specifici della psicanalisi, o che in ambito psicanalitico hanno assunto particolari significati. Il lavoro consta di un Glossario che raccoglie 338 parole, che potranno fornire un quadro più omogeneo sulla consistenza del vocabolario psicanalitico italiano primonovecentesco, e di una sua analisi specifica. Questo “frugare” tra le parole talvolta riesce a far emergere qualche frammento inedito, o poco conosciuto, di una storia, quella della prima psicanalisi in Italia, travagliata e forse troppo frettolosamente rimossa o mitizzata. È questo, forse, l’aspetto della nostra ricerca che più ci ha affascinato e che ci ha fatto scegliere alcune parole per studiarne la storia. Sono così nate nove schede, nove storie di parole che occupano la parte centrale del volume. Ogni scheda approfondisce alcuni aspetti: il rapporto tra la cultura italiana e quella francese (atti mancati e transfert), i timori delle gerarchie cattoliche (sublimazione), la percezione della figura dello psicanalista (psicoanalisi), l’avversione per la psicanalisi da parte dell’idealismo crociano (libido e transfert), l’odio del razzismo fascista (pansessualismo), i rapporti tra psicanalisi, psicologia e psichiatria e altre scienze come la fisica (carica psichica, inconscio e transfert). Naturalmente ogni parola si porta dietro un’infinità di altre parole, alcune approfondite nelle stesse schede, magari in nota (luoghi del testo che abbiamo imparato ad apprezzare nella lettura delle opere freudiane), tutte comunque reperibili nel Glossario e recuperabili nell’Indice delle parole. Completa il lavoro un’Appendice con l’elenco completo dei testi che formano il corpus su cui abbiamo condotto i nostri spogli e che rappresentano gran parte di quanto è stato pubblicato sulla psicanalisi in Italia fino al 1939. The work stems from the observation of the substantial absence in the panorama of Italian historical-linguistic studies of a systematic survey of the genesis of the Italian lexicon of psychoanalysis. The attempt was to fill some lexicographic gaps that could easily be encountered by those who, in order to get an idea of the history of the formation of Italian psychoanalytic terminology, wanted to resort to lexicographic repertories. These (both synchronic and diachronic ones) produce results vitiated by the use of non-specific sources, with the consequence that a terminology that was formed on the whole within the first four decades of the twentieth century would seem, instead, to have been formed over the span of almost a century. The reference period is the forty-year period between 1899 and 1939. Within this chronological span, a corpus (C-PsicIT) of more than 600 texts has been constructed, collecting not only what has been produced by Italian psychoanalysis, but also what has been written about psychoanalysis, including newspaper articles, journals and (admittedly not many) literary works. The strips made allowed us to identify those terms which, limited to the period under review, are specific to psychoanalysis, or which have taken on particular meanings in the psychoanalytic field. The work consists of a Glossary that collects 338 words, which will be able to provide a more homogeneous picture of the consistency of early 20th-century Italian psychoanalytic vocabulary, and a specific analysis of it. This “rummaging” among the words sometimes succeeds in bringing out some unpublished, or little-known, fragments of a history, that of early psychoanalysis in Italy, troubled and perhaps too hastily dismissed or mythologized. It is this, perhaps, the aspect of our research that most fascinated us and made us choose a few words to study its history. Thus were born nine tabs, nine word histories that occupy the central part of the volume. Each card delves into certain aspects: the relationship between Italian and French culture (atti mancati and transfert), the fears of Catholic hierarchies (sublimazione), the perception of the figure of the psychoanalyst (psicanalisi), the aversion to psychoanalysis by Crocian idealism (libido and transfert), the hatred of fascist racism (pansessualismo), the relationship between psychoanalysis, psychology and psychiatry and other sciences such as physics (carica psichica, inconscio and transfert). Of course, each word carries with it an infinity of other words, some explored in depth in the tabs themselves, perhaps in footnotes (places in the text that we have come to appreciate in reading Freudian works), all of which can nevertheless be found in the Glossary and retrieved in the Index of Words. Completing the work is an Appendix with a complete list of the texts that form the corpus on which we conducted our perusal and that represent a large part of what was published on psychoanalysis in Italy up to 1939.
