The present work has been carried out to develop innovative and sustainable materials, known as biochars, which derive from thermal conversion of waste biomasses and promptly employed in the depuration context and for analytical purposes, thus achieving their “end-of-waste” status. The produced biochars must be characterized for their product properties and environmental compatibility in order to achieve positive results in the specific application, requiring at the same time the maximum performance and the minimum chemical/energy input. The compliance of European Standards requirements will allow to successfully implement this material in filter for wastewater refining, whereas making the properties of biochar to the ones of graphitized carbon black will allow to make use of it to substitute it in some analytical applications. The modularity of the biochar’s characteristics, in accordance with the wide variety of possible modifications applicable on the material, highlights the versatility of this strategy throughout different kinds of applications.
