Spettacoli rivali. Indagini d’archivio su un matrimonio estense-mediceo (1558-1560)

Il presente contributo è dedicato ai festeggiamenti legati al matrimonio di Alfonso II d’Este e Lucrezia di Cosimo I de’ Medici. Lo scopo della ricognizione è duplice : da una parte si intende condividere i risultati di un’indagine archivistica svolta perlopiù presso l’Archivio di Stato di Firenze ; dall’altra si vuole ricostruire l’iter festivo a partire dagli studi di Guglielmo Enrico Saltini e di Alfonso Lazzari, in prospettiva di aggiornamento. Ribadire infine il ruolo dei matrimoni come strumenti per suggellare alleanze tra esponenti di importanti casate e insieme come momento di rivalità. ABSTRACT: This article is dedicated to the festivities surrounding the marriage of Alfonso II of Este and Lucrezia of Cosimo I of Medici. The study has two aims : on the one hand, to present the results of an archival investigation carried out mainly in the State Archives of Florence. On the other hand, to reconstruct the celebrations on the basis of the studies by Guglielmo Enrico Saltini and Alfonso Lazzari in order to update them. Finally, to emphasize the role of weddings as a means of sealing alliances between representatives of important families and as a moment of rivalry.
