Through a careful analysis of Bergson’s Matière et mémoire, the article evidences the importance that recognition has for the connection between matter and spirit. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate that only through recognition is possible to show that meaning is not reducible to matter but it is the most intimate expression of the spirit – expression thanks to which Bergson axiologically founds his philosophical anthropology
