In recent years, the demand for innovation-ena-bling regulation has permeated nearly every do-main of governance, encompassing areas such as food and medicine, financial services, and artifi-cial intelligence (AI). The 2024 EU Regulation on AI (AI Act) exemplifies this trend: it seeks to rec-oncile the objective of fostering technological in-novation with the imperative of safeguarding health, fundamental rights and freedoms, which remain the primary concern of regulatory inter-vention. Within this broader trend, one of the most prominent instruments is the “regulatory sandbox”(RS).
