The book examines the role that tradition, modernity, and transmodernity have long played as major "symbolic scenarios" of Islamist discourses. By exploring the way that territorial boundaries have variously been negotiated, disputed, and creatively reconfigured within the Islamist matrix, the book draws an Islamist cartography of the ‘border’, highlighting its internal complexity and dynamism. With its focus on non-Western sources and the Global South, ‘The Symbolic Scenarios of Islamism’ provides a unique contribution towards rethinking the nature of citizenship, antagonism, space, and frontiers required today.
