This article explores the morphosyntax of the Francoprovençal dialects object clitics, negation, and the determiner phrase (DP), specifically possessives and their agreement properties. This last topic raises the question of contact with neighboring Apulian varieties: the contact is selective and involves specific syntactic properties. Comparison with other Franco-Provençal dialects of Piedmont and the Aosta Valley will help to further explore the structural properties of the morphosyntactic phenomena in these dialects. Our syntactic analysis follows the phase model developed by Chomsky in his recent theoretical work.

Abstract

This article explores the morphosyntax of the Francoprovençal dialects object clitics, negation, and the determiner phrase (DP), specifically possessives and their agreement properties. This last topic raises the question of contact with neighboring Apulian varieties: the contact is selective and involves specific syntactic properties. Comparison with other Franco-Provençal dialects of Piedmont and the Aosta Valley will help to further explore the structural properties of the morphosyntactic phenomena in these dialects. Our syntactic analysis follows the phase model developed by Chomsky in his recent theoretical work.
