Echo-Doppler analysis is a fundamental medical tool for the evaluation of the presence of atherosclerotic plaques in the carotid artery (Carpenter et al, 1995), since it may show the dimensions of the stenosis and its haemodynamic significance. This exam is used both for pre-operative evaluations and for post-operative check ups in atherosclerotic patients subject to surgical treatment, for it has diagnostic capabilities of significant modifications to vessel morphology
