ARLECCHINO. VITA E AVVENTURE DI TRISTANO MARTINELLI ATTORE

Il libro racconta la biografia di Tristano Martinelli, l’attore italiano che tra il 1575 e il 1630, creò per primo la maschera di Arlecchino. La ricerca si fonda sulle fonti documentarie (epistolari, licenze, passaporti, testi rari) contenute negli archivi di Mantova, Firenze, Anversa, Parigi, Madrid, sulle fonti iconografiche (pitture, incisioni, stampe) e sulle edizioni dei testi teatrali coevi. Il quadro d’insieme accompagna la narrazione biografica con riferimenti alla storia civile, militare e diplomatica delle dinastie dei Gonzaga, dei Valois, dei Medici, ma si applica anche all’analisi dei testi letterari e teatrali del tempo così come delle trattazioni teoriche intorno alla moralità e alla funzione puramente performativa o rappresentativa dello spettacolo dell’Arte. Il libro è stato tradotto in francese (Arlequin. Vie et aventures de Tristano Martinelli, acteur, Paris, Entretemps, 2008) This monography tells about the biography of Tristano Martinelli, the Italian actor who created the mask of Harlequin between the years 1575 and 1630. The research is based on documentary sources (letters, licenses, passports, rare texts) held in the archives of different cities among Europe, such as Mantua, Florence, Antwerp, Paris, Madrid, on iconographic sources (paintings, engravings, printings) and on the edition of the contemporary texts. The historical frame underlies the biographical narration with references to the civil, military and diplomatic history of the time, regarding the greats families of the Gonzaga, the Medicis and the Valois, but it can also be applied to the analysis of the contemporary texts of literature and theatre as well of the various treatises on morality of the time, and to the merely performing function of the Commedia dell’Arte. The book has been also translated in French (Arlequin. Vie et aventures de Tristano Martinelli, acteur, Paris, Entretemps, 2008)
