Aesthetics as an independent branch of philosophy is commonly traced back by the scholars to the eighteenth century and precisely in Baumgarten's works. Nevertheless, issues dealing with the nature of beauty, art and taste have been objects of enquiry since the ancient Greek philosophy. One of the characteristics of this work is that of outlining the history of Aesthetics before its official beginning in the modern age. This fact explains the title of book: History of Western Aesthetics. From Homer to the age of neuroscience. The complex of work is drawn up by a constant confrontation between the authors. As far as the singles sections, the authorship, however, is to be ascribed as follows: the chapters 1-4 and the paragraphs 5.4, 6.3.6, 6.6, 6.7.2, 6.7.3., 6.8, 6.10, 7.7.1, 7.7.2, 7.7.5, 7.10.2 to Chiara Cantelli; the chapters 5-7 (save the paragraphs enumerated above) are to be ascribed to Fabrizio Desideri, who is also the scientific supervisor of the whole book.
