L'auctoritas linguistica di Cicerone nelle Notti Attiche di Aulo Gellio

La ricerca valuta la posizione di Cicerone nelle Notti Attiche di Aulo Gellio come auctor linguistico e stilistico. Una analisi approfondita delle osservazioni linguistiche di Gellio, relative a morfologia, sintassi, lessico, etimologia, semantica, stile, permette di appurare la presenza centrale di Cicerone come inequivocabile punto di riferimento, accanto agli arcaici e spesso anche a prescindere da essi, per l’autore delle Notti Attiche. Si dimostra il tal modo che l’arcaismo di Gellio è senza dubbio moderato, alieno dalle estremizzazioni frontoniane e che il consistente ruolo assunto dall’Arpinate rappresenta una tappa significativa del classicismo ciceroniano nei secoli. Anzi Gellio è forse da considerare uno di capisaldi di quel gusto linguistico che va sotto il nome di ciceronianesimo: ed è notevole il fatto che rappresentante di questo gusto sia proprio uno scrittore che appartiene al movimento arcaizzante del II secolo. La ricerca evidenzia anche i rapporti, spesso strettissimi, di Gellio con altri grammatici antichi, in particolare Macrobio e Nonio. This research appraises the position of Cicero in the Attic Nights of Aulus Gellius as linguistic and stylistic auctor. A deepened analysis of the linguistic observations of Gellius, related to morphology, syntax, lexicon, etymology, semantics, style, allows to ascertain the central presence of Cicero as unequivocal point of reference, close to the archaic writers and often also apart from them, for the author of the Attic Nights. It is possible to show such the way that the archaism of Gellius is surely moderate, alien from the frontonian excesses, and that the consistent role assumed by the Arpinas represents a meaningful step of the ciceronian classicism in the centuries. Rather Gellius is perhaps to be considered one of the bases of that linguistic taste that goes under the name of ciceronianism: and it’s a notable fact that representative of this taste is really a writer that belongs to the archaic movement of the II century. The research also underlines the relationships, often narrow, of Gellius with other ancient grammarians, especially Macrobius and Nonius.
