The aim of this work is to examine the psychometric properties of the Italian version (translated by Di Fabio) of the General Decision Making Style (GDMS; Scott e Bruce, 1995) in order to verify if and with which modalities this tool can be used in an Italian context. The sample was made up of 564 subjects of whom 159 young adult trainees (M = 21.30; DS = 2.41) in the Province of Florence, Prato and Siena and 405 doctors and nurses (M = 41.55; DS = 7.82) from the local health authority (ASL 10 in Florence). In order to verify the factorial structure, a series of Explorative Factor Analysis (AFE) using the method of Principle Axis Factoring (PAF) and Varimax rotation, were carried out. In order to verify concurrent validity, the GDMS was given along with the Melbourne Decision Making Questionnaire (Italian version edited by Nota e Soresi, 2000). The PAF confirmed the penta-dimensional structure already highlighted by the authors. Five factors emerged which explain the 46.07% of the total variance and have high internal consistency. The correlations of GDMS with the Melbourne Decision Making Questionnaire evince a high concurrent validity in accordance to the measurements taken. It may be concluded that the measuring tool has all the characteristics enabling it to be used as an accurate measure of decisional styles within an Italian organizational context. Analyses are in progress to verify further aspects of concurrent validity.
