La rovere nelle Macchie di Panna

Vengono descritte le caratteristiche di popolamenti di querce con rovere (Quercus petraea) recentemente individuati in Mugello (provincia di Firenze). Qui la rovere è naturalmente presente in cedui oltreturno in cui appare meno vigorosa del cerro (Quercus cerris). Il tipo di substrato (suoli argillosi), la consistente presenza della rovere e la notevole ricchezza specifica rendono il popolamento di Panna meritevole di attenzione e protezione. A tal fine viene proposto un tipo d’intervento che mira a favorire la rovere, privilegiando questa nella selezione per l’avviamento a fustaia. The sessile oak in the Macchia of Panna woods. The paper describes the main characteristicts of oak stands with sessile oak (Quercus petraea) recently pinpointed in the Mugello valley (Florence district). In the studied area sessile oak, a species considered as rare in Italy, is spontaneously present in aged coppice characteristed by Turkey oak (Quercus cerris) as dominant species. Growth indexes showed sessile oak was less vigorous than Turkey oak. Results showed that Macchia of Panna woods, due to their peculiar stand structure and tree species richness, characterised by the remarkable presence of sessile oak on clay soils, deserves further investigations and protection. In this context, a specific thinning, aimed to favour sessile oak compared with Turkey oak in the conversion of coppice to high forest, was proposed.
